Wintercamp
Reflection
The first thing we did
well was to make an elevated platform. The elevated platform kept us
warm and we never woke up at night because of the cold. Secondly our
menu plan was perfect, we made quesadillas and had Gatorade for
drinks and marshmallows and chocolate for dessert. We also brought 4
bags of chips for snacks and a veggie tray and finally some beef
jerky. The last thing that we did well was make our walls nice and
thick, It kept us warm. The walls around the entrance were also
really thick so
no wind or air was getting through. Not
all of it was great though, if I had to do it again I would cover up
our tunnel at night. The quinzhee was cold in the morning because all
the cold air was coming straight up through our tunnel. Secondly I
would make sure to bring a pillow. I didn't have one this time and it
made sleeping a lot less comfortable. A recommendation I would make to
anyone attempting to build their own quinzhee is to make sure you make
the pile really wide. Having a wide base allows for a lot more room
once you begin to dig it out. Secondly I would recommend having a
good platform so you can stay warm and away from the cold air. My
final tip would be to make sure your walls don't become to thin.
Having thin walls would make it a lot colder at night and your
overall experience would be much worse.
